WEDDING POLICY

(Effective August 16th, 2007)

Thank you for considering this church for your very special day. The Pastor of the Huguenot Church will work with you to provide a meaningful, and unique ceremony that will always be remembered with joy. We offer this Policy statement as an aid to your decisions and invite your questions.

Members of the Church of a year or longer are not charged a rental fee for any use of the church building or hall.

In recognition of the long, historic relationship existing between the Huguenot Society of South Carolina and the Huguenot Church, Huguenot Society members that are not church members are charged a reduced fee of $1,000.00 for use of the church for weddings.

In response to many requests, a limited number of weddings has been approved by the Board of Directors. Twenty-five (25) non-member weddings are allowed in any calendar year. The fee for use of the church is $2,000.00. Please call Mrs. Gaye Richardson, our Office Manager, at (843) 722-4385 for available dates. She is in the office Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. and would be happy to show you the church by appointment. If you are out of town, you may view pictures of the church and Huguenot Heritage Hall by visiting our web site at www.frenchhuguenotchurch.org.

The fee for use of the church includes the use of Huguenot Heritage Hall at 44 Queen Street for the bride and her attendants to dress and be photographed, if so desired. (The church does not allow rehearsal dinners, bridal luncheons, or wedding receptions at 44 Queen.) Keys may be picked up at the church office at 44 Queen Street before 2:00 p.m. on the Thursday or Friday prior to the wedding. A $25.00 deposit is required for keys, which will be refunded upon their return. Please call Mrs. Gaye Richardson at least two weeks in advance to set up a time to pick up the keys.

All weddings require prior visitation with the Pastor of our church, The Reverend Philip C. Bryant. To arrange a meeting between our Pastor and the bride and groom, please call Mrs. Gaye Richardson at the church office. Reverend Bryant will make all decisions and perform, or assist with, all weddings at the Huguenot Church. The Minister's fee, set by the Board of Directors, is $300.00 for non-members. There is no charge for members.

We will need to receive the printable reservation form and the check for $2,000 no more than 10 days after reserving the church.

Our musicians have access to fine instrumentalists who will complement your wedding, e.g., Trumpeters, Flautists, String Quartets, etc.  (If there is a question about what may be proper wedding music for use at the Huguenot Church, the Church Organist, Tray Stephenson, will make the final decision with the Wedding Organist, George Hiatt.

The church requires that you use our director for your wedding. Mrs. Delta Amrhein is the Director for all weddings at the Huguenot Church. Her fee is $400.00. This includes a consultation before the wedding and being present at the rehearsal and two hours before the wedding. Mrs. Amrhein may be reached at (843) 849-0490 or dga1055@aol.com.     The church requests the flowers used in double containers on the altar for the wedding be left for the church service the following day. The Sunday bulletin will announce the flowers are the gift of the (named) married couple of the day or night before unless a member of the church donates flowers.

The fee for use of the church is to be paid at the time of booking, or mailed to the church office, and is non-refundable, as the church has reserved this time for you exclusively. The only exception would be a natural disaster or death to a principal member, declared in writing to the Board of Directors. All other fees for the Organist, Director and Pastor (and any other costs incurred) must be paid by check made out to each individual and delivered or mailed to the church office for arrival at least two weeks prior to the rehearsal. We have found that wedding weekends are much less stressful for the couple and all involved when fees are paid and details handled in advance. Please note that, until the fee for use of the church is received, your wedding is not booked, only tentatively reserved. Therefore, please let us know as soon as you have made a decision.

If the time of your wedding and/or rehearsal changes or the wedding is canceled or postponed, it will NOT be validated until the church office is contacted.

The Marriage License is to be given to Reverend Bryant on the night of the rehearsal. Application must be made 48 hours in advance of pickup at the Marriage License Bureau. They are located at 100 Broad Street (downtown) and may be reached at (843) 958-5183. The appropriate copies of the Marriage License will be mailed from the church office to the Judge of Probate after the wedding.

The mailing address of the church is 44 Queen Street, Charleston, SC 29401. The street address of the church is 136 Church Street or on the corner of Church and Queen Streets.
